Article Marketing, is it Still Worth it?
With the internet ever expanding and many more new webmasters getting onto the online scene is your site under threat of being taken over by the masses? Traditionally article marketing was one of the cheapest and fastest ways of getting traffic and backlinks to your site, however, with the increased quality checks, delays due to mass submissions and bans on certain types of articles and links has article marketing lost its edge?
Article marketing also known as ‘bum marketing’ is the method by which a person would write (or get others to write for him) multiple articles on a chosen topic, usually ranging from 300 words and above. These articles then would be submitted to the major article directories, each submission would then be accepted and if spun correctly, would show on the search engines. This would increase traffic to the website by placing a link at the end of the article or within the text plus it would also count as a backlink to increase the PR.
However, article directories have changed a fair bit, some employing nofollow links and others creating harsh restrictions on the type of content that could be posted (you would think since they make money from others work they would be less picky). The main area hit by these restrictions are those of male health, and product reviewers as the top article directories like Ezine do not allow these style of article. In fact if you mention other sites in the text before the 2nd paragraph or too often the article may also be denied.
A newer, somewhat better method of article marketing is to simply use squidoo pages and similar in order to make single sites for single article pointing to the main site. However, even these style of sites are being taken down. So article marketing will need to adapt.
