Google Broadband May Change The Way we Host
As some of you may have heard, Google has been looking into entering the market for super high speed broadband. However, on route it has had to deal with many issues from legislation based (later discussed) to the ability to supply this broadband. Now it seems that Google truly is pushing forward with its attempts at making internet speed incredibly faster, but what does that mean for you?
Well, in much of the same way that the move from dial up to broadband allowed for some of the most popular advancements online, such as Facebook and YouTube. Google hopes that their new 1gb per second internet speed will also lead to further innovations. Now this is all good to the user, but what does this mean for those of you who own websites and what will that mean to hosting services?
Well in terms of webmasters out there, usually when you build a website you have to keep in mind that some people still have dialup. This means you have to make the adjustment so that your image files and your text is not too big, if it does get too big then your visitors will suffer with slow loading. But, once Google, or if Google, is allowed to expand as it wished then size of sites will no longer need to be put so plainly in perspective. This could mean that soon flash sites, high HD videos and even higher quality images will be the new trend across websites.
In terms of hosting and severs, the biggest adjustment will be to the fact that to support the larger files and the quicker movement of visitors people will need larger bandwidth and larger server space. Meaning that in the near future shared hosting may be a thing of the past if and indeed when Google gets the go ahead.
