So what about the other types of hosting, reseller, VPS hosting and dedicated hosting? Well since these are above the level of “the basics” only a small summary will be given of each of these hosting types so that you have the basic knowledge without being overloaded.

The next level of hosting in terms of usability is reseller hosting. Reseller hosting differs from normal shared hosting as you gain a lot more space and usually have either very high limit to domain hosting or an unlimited amount of domain hosting.

The next thing you should know is that you have more space to put your websites on. However, the biggest difference with this form of hosting is that with the space you have remaining you can package it and sell off to other people so that you can both save money on the hosting cost and possibly make money from it.

VPS hosting or Virtual Private Server Hosting, is pretty much as it says, it is a form of hosting where you have a virtual server, you can choose to restart, shutdown, and end specific programs or the entire site at your discretion. This is something you can not do with the previously mentioned hosting. The obvious differences again are that you will have a larger space a larger bandwidth limit and more sql database calls. However the biggest difference is more technical as you will now be able to install software and update software to your liking! Need a certain type of something to make that new site work? Well with VPD you can install it.

Dedicated hosting is the upgraded version of VPS where you actually have control of the server. Everything else but the mass amount of space is similar to VPS.

This concludes the 4 part basic guide to webhosting, after reading this you should now be fully informed and ready to buy.

Good Luck
