Search Engine Optimization Using Links

Ever has it been that search engine optimisation ranks very high in terms of popularity in the virtual world of packets, bits and bytes, for this is a very important means of gaining relevance to your website. You may have a very informative website, one which you believe will be beneficial. To make it “accessible”, however, in other words, to optimise the links to your website or in simpler terms, to be listed in the top five searches of popular search engines, requires a bit of cleverness and smartness on the part of the developer. One aspect of search engine optimisation will be discussed here.

In this era of expanding computer networking, massive search engines like Google and Yahoo rely on “quality, quantity and relevance of links”. This means the developer has to design the web page keeping in mind the entry points to the site. Many types of links that can be effectively added are reciprocal links, forum links and resource links. But each needs to be created carefully. For example, the catch in reciprocal links is that if the reciprocal page is not as “visited” as your site is, then it will only result in a reverse effect, creating advantage for the peer site. Another important aspect to be taken into account is that junk links are to be avoided, or attempts to fool search engines by creating spam links. Most search engines of today blacklist such sites that attempt to create multiple spam links by, say, registering with a large number of search engines. This , instead of improving the rank of your page in link popularity algorithms, actually result in a steep fall of page rank.

Other types of links that can be created are resource links that link a site with a another page that is suppposed to contain facts related to the current site being visited. This helps in improving the relevance of both the site and the resource linked page. Thus, carefully placed links has seen a marked improvement in the relevance gained by a website, and is something that is implemented in every successful website.
